To ensure that girls build their new skills safely, Girl Scouts of the USA and local Girl Scout councils have developed money-earning guidelines for girls and adults to follow. Safety-Wise, a GSUSA publication, outlines in detail everything troops, groups, and individuals need to know to begin a money-earning project. Following is a list of Do's and Don'ts to help you start thinking about future ventures:
Do
* Follow Safety-Wise standards and your council guidelines about money-earning.
* Make sure activities are age-appropriate and that they follow the goals and principles of Girl Scout program.
* Decide as a group how to use money earned by the group—individuals cannot earn money for their individual use.
* Make sure an adult is present at all times during money-earning activities outside the meeting place.
* Set up a group bank account that is overseen by a leader or a designated adult and follow council guidelines.
* Check with your council if you are an individual member and want to apply for financial assistance or sell Girl Scout Cookies® with a group.
Don't
* Participate in games of chance, direct solicitation for cash, or product endorsement.
* Raise money for another organization or cause (you can donate as a group from your treasury or give service)
* Do any money-earning project without approval from your council.
* Conduct any sales on the Internet.
Always check the policies in the Blue Book of Basic Documents 2000 and the Program Standards in Safety-Wise as well as council policies and standards while discussing potential projects.

Decade 1980
Britons have voted the 1980s - the era dominated by mullet haircuts and shoulder pads - as the coolest decade in the past 50 years.
The new survey by an online sweets firm 'A Quarter Of...' has revealed that a third of people were at their happiest in the 80s and thought that life was better and simpler at the time.
Live Aid concert in 1985 was what made the eighties so popular, followed by Queen and frontman Freddie Mercury, ITV satire Spitting Image and the Rubik's Cube, reports the Daily Star.
The film Dirty Dancing, with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, the Pac Man game and TV show Saturday Superstore also made 80s the coolest decade.
The 1960s landed at the second spot with 20pct votes, helped by the World Cup and the Beatles, while the 90s followed at third place.

The value of money
This century has seen an enormous rise in prices that has impoverished the agricultural and working class. The daily ration of bread for a manual laborer on an estate was 1.7 kilos a day (which provided 89% of the calories in a peasant diet). In 1500, a skilled artisan made about 4 sou per day, which would buy 15 kg of bread - about 8 days’ worth. That same artisan in 1594 made 10-15 sou per day (less in winter), and could buy about 9 kg of bread - about 4 days’ worth. An unskilled urban worker made 5-7 sou per day (about two day's bread), and an unskilled female made 3-4 sou per day (a day's bread). Agricultural day laborers were even worse off, a man earning 7-8 sou per day and a "woman of all work" only 3 sou, no matter what the skill. Women’s wages suffered especially sharply. In 1500 she made at least half of what a man did, and in our time some women laborers got no more than a single sou for a day’s work. Keep in mind that day laborers, especially agricultural ones, only worked when the weather was good, and often had no work for one- to two-thirds of the year.
Contracted laborers on an estate made less cash in return for a percentage of the crop. In 1500 that percentage was usually a tenth – by the end of the century is was about 1/15th. A servant in the house of a rural estate earned around 100 sous a year, a woman around 60 (some things never change). Such a laborer lived with the family, and got food, shelter, and usually a pair of shoes and a shirt or apron along with the wages.

The ratio of 12:20:1 is a classical one that supposedly reflected the relatives values of copper:silver:gold. Anywhere the Romans went, there are traces of a money system that uses these proportions. (The English also used "money of account" where 12 pence = 1 shilling, 20 shillings = 1 pound sterling).
There are no actual coins for the money of account. Kings minted coins which could be assigned values in terms of money of account, and these values may fluctuate given such factors as inflation (a concept not well understood then).
A coin would usually be known by its picture or some other visual characteristic, not its monetary value. It did not have an actual value printed on it, as we commonly do. For example, if we applied this system to modern coinage, a modern dime might be called "a Roosevelt" and depending on the state of inflation or recession in the country might sometimes be worth 10 cents, sometimes 9, sometimes 12, etc.
The basic unit of coinage in France is the écu au soleil. It is the only gold coin that has been minted in France since 1484. Its value relative to the money of account has fluctuated throughout the century. Since 1574 it has remained stable at 3 livres to the écu, due to the monetary policies of Henri III.
The most common coins for daily transactions among the "menu peuple" are the blanc or dixaine, a 10 d coin, and the grand blanc or douzaine, a 12 d coin. They are made of a billon, copper/silver mix. There is also a silver teston, worth 10 s (120 d). The franc was a silver coin that used to be worth a livre, but none have been minted in our century. The term is still sometimes used to mean a livre.
There were lots of foreign coins in circulation as well and accounts were sometimes kept in them. Spanish coins are particularly popular in the west of France (i.e. where we are). I also imagine English coins would be popular here in Calais. Most of the foreign coins were high-value ones, worth much more than a livre.

Some of our PEERs asked how they can make more money. So, we sat down and came up with a list of a handful of things that you can do!
1. Verify your preferences on the PEER user interface. To pay you for online time and work processed, the characteristics (country, zip code, Internet connection type) you indicate on the PEER preferences window must match the actual characteristics of your PC.
* For instance, if you select "Uzbekistan" as your country in the PEER preference window, but you live in the United States, your PC may not receive work. Thus, you earn less processing time payments.
* If you have a laptop, or your PC's location and Internet connection type changes frequently, please be sure to update your PEER preferences.
* Please follow these steps to verify your PEER preferences: Select "Options" from the menu on the PEER user interface and choose "Preferences".
2. Use the Referral Tools to get people to sign up with you as the referrer! Every time someone signs up with your username in the "Referrer" field and we activate them, you get a buck! Tell-A-Friend directly, or use the banner ads on the Referral Tools page.
* If you have a Web site, post Gomez banners.
3. Dial-up users, stay online! The Gomez PEER only earns you cash when you are connected to the Internet. Therefore, every time you decide to turn on your PC, get online!

* The power settings are under the "Screen Saver" tab. Make sure the PC is not scheduled to shut down after a certain time.

6. Keep running the Gomez PEER and stay online! You can even run the Gomez PEER in the middle of the night. We process work 24x7, so the longer you are online, the more work you can process. Establish Your Blog Brandly
The most important thing about having a blog is to establish your brand and let your readers get to know you. This applies mostly to blogs that are related to your business. As the author of the blog, you can tell your readers about yourself in the About page. Your readers will also come to know you through your style of writing and what you write about. If you have something meaningful to say, people will listen.
If you don’t already have a blog, it’s time to take the plunge and get started. Remember Nike’s popular slogan? Just do it. You can learn along the way as you build up your first blog. There is a lot of freely available information about all aspects of maintaining and marketing a blog.
In the beginning, you can take a look at some of the popular blogs in your niche and take note of what you like about them. Basically you are trying to capture the best elements of those blogs and try to incorporate them in yours.
Even if you are not a Pulitzer prize winning author, you can still get better at writing as you practice. Try to blog as regularly as possible. If you stop for long periods between your posts, you may start to lose your readership. You can even write your posts beforehand if you know that you are going to be away on vacation. Then you can set up automatic scheduling to post to the blog.
As your blog readership grows, you will hopefully get more people interacting with you through the comments. Definitely install Akismet to catch most of the comment spam. Try to answer all of the valid comments quickly and you will make your readers feel that you care. Another option to think about is building a forum as part of your blog. Again, due to the problem of spam, forums require moderation and if you don’t have time to do this, you’ll have to find some volunteers or pay for help.
Another way to build a community quickly is by holding a blog contest. You can offer attractive prizes (like lots of cash!) or ask other bloggers to donate prizes in exchange for something you have to offer. You could offer to review their blog in your blog and give them a backlink. You could offer them your own product in exchange. Those are just two quick ideas.
Folks like Darren Rowse (Problogger) and Shoemoney have built their brands largely due to the popularity of their blogs. You have to find your own unique angle to it. For Problogger, it was teaching people about blogging and making money from it. For Shoemoney, a lot of initial interest was generated by showing a huge affiliate check and talking about tremendous success with ringtones.
Don’t delay, start thinking about how you can establish yourself in a crowded marketplace. The sooner you start, the better.

America's Top Growing and Disappearing Jobs
There are a couple groups for whom rising oil prices haven't been all bad: roustabouts and service unit operators in the oil and gas industry.
Roustabouts are the workers who assemble and repair oil and gas field equipment. They do other unskilled work around rigs like cleaning up spilled oil, moving pipes to and from trucks and guiding cranes that move loads around decks.
It's hard and dirty work, and in the labor hierarchy of oil rigs, roustabouts are a notch below roughnecks. But theirs is the fastest growing job category in our listing of America's 20 top growing and disappearing jobs.
Roustabouts' numbers have increased by almost a third, to 54,200 from 41,120 a year earlier, reflecting the boom in energy markets.
The number of service unit operators, who keep the oil flowing from wells and remove obstructions such as stuck pipes and casings, is up by a fifth, to 30,440 from 25,360 a year earlier, putting them at number three on our list behind aircraft assembly workers.
Our numbers are drawn from the U.S. government's National, State and Metropolitan Area Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates. The available reports use 2007 data and are based on a national survey of employers in all industry sectors regardless of size.
They examine 800 occupations. For our lists, we excluded those occupations where total employment was less than 25,000.
The survey covers full- and part-time workers who are paid a wage or salary. It does not include the self-employed, owners and partners in unincorporated firms, household workers and unpaid family workers.
Our list of expanding jobs in America is drawn from a swathe of industries. Some--like oil and gas, health care, logistics and media--are to be expected. Others--like locomotive engineers and aircraft assembly workers--were more surprising.
Most of the growing job opportunities are at the non-specialist, or unskilled, end of the field, though they run the full gamut of wage levels. Non-specialist physicians and surgeons earn an average $155,150 a year, while home health aides average $20,850 a year and had the largest absolute increase in numbers--up 83,100 to 834,580, a year-on-year increase of 11%.
The disappearing jobs are concentrated in the lower third of the pay range, though the field work was done before the onset of the credit crisis, so it precedes recent job losses in the housing and financial services industries.
The disappearing jobs list also reflects the continuing long-term decline of no- and low-skilled manufacturing jobs in the U.S.--sewing machine operators, engine assemblers, machine tool setters, home appliance repairers and textile knitting machine operators.

Roustabouts' numbers have increased by almost a third, to 54,200 from 41,120 a year earlier, reflecting the boom in energy markets.
The number of service unit operators, who keep the oil flowing from wells and remove obstructions such as stuck pipes and casings, is up by a fifth, to 30,440 from 25,360 a year earlier, putting them at number three on our list behind aircraft assembly workers.
Our numbers are drawn from the U.S. government's National, State and Metropolitan Area Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates. The available reports use 2007 data and are based on a national survey of employers in all industry sectors regardless of size.
They examine 800 occupations. For our lists, we excluded those occupations where total employment was less than 25,000.
The survey covers full- and part-time workers who are paid a wage or salary. It does not include the self-employed, owners and partners in unincorporated firms, household workers and unpaid family workers.
Our list of expanding jobs in America is drawn from a swathe of industries. Some--like oil and gas, health care, logistics and media--are to be expected. Others--like locomotive engineers and aircraft assembly workers--were more surprising.
Most of the growing job opportunities are at the non-specialist, or unskilled, end of the field, though they run the full gamut of wage levels. Non-specialist physicians and surgeons earn an average $155,150 a year, while home health aides average $20,850 a year and had the largest absolute increase in numbers--up 83,100 to 834,580, a year-on-year increase of 11%.
The disappearing jobs are concentrated in the lower third of the pay range, though the field work was done before the onset of the credit crisis, so it precedes recent job losses in the housing and financial services industries.

Save Smart, Spend Smart
Almost everyone has probably heard of AdSense by now, if not then I am pretty sure you have seen AdSense and may have not even known what it was. I used the Adsense editor and I changed my ads background and border colors so they matched the background color of my webpages, and I changed the text color of the ads so they matched the text color of my webpages content. I asked google if adding the images was within the AdSense rules, and I was advised that they were fine as long as they didn't make folks click on the ads, by this I mean, you cannot have a flashing sign that says, ' click these ads ', or you shouldn't have a scantily dressed girl pointing to the ads saying ' make me happy - click here ' or stuff like that, just make some nice little images that pertain to your webpages content.
The next couple months or so, my earnings still continued rising slowly. By this time, besides my regular webpages I had been working on several BLOG's pertaining to different subjects, so I thought I might as well place AdSense ads on all of my blogs also and make even more money. For a couple weeks my earnings went up quite a bit, and I was very happy, then all of a sudden, just like someone turning off a switch, my AdSense earnings plummeted. I was now making in a day, what I had made when I first joined the program, what the heck happened I thought to myself ? My traffic was still slowly rising, the number of clicks was rising, but for some strange reason, the earnings per click, (EPC) had dropped a lot, it was horrible. When 'smart pricing', was introduced, some AdSense users saw their EPC drop to as low as 3 cents a click, where before 'smart pricing', that same click might of earned them a dollar or much more, this was quite a drastic drop in earnings. What is horrible about 'smart pricing', besides the earnings loss to AdSense users, is that one site or webpage can trigger it, and once triggered by that one webpage, it effects your entire account and every webpage you have will now earn substantially less per click. Remember awhile back when I had added AdSense Ads to my BLOG's, that seemed to be what had triggered smart pricing for me. The BLOG's were on numerous subjects, but they were not business or real professional sites, so hardly any business results such as sales, occurred from folks clicking the ads on these sites. After I removed the Adsense ads from the BLOG's, it took about a week, then I noticed that the EPC was once again climbing back up, yes the 'smart pricing', spell had been broken.

Earn More than Man ( For Women)
A recent “New York Times” story focused on the problems some high-earning women are having in the dating arena. The men they have been going out with are, to some degree at least, having trouble with the fact that these women are now the breadwinners.
This is understandable. Women as the primary wage earners is a big shift. On average it is true that men working full-time still outearn women working full-time. But it is also true that since the 1970s almost all the income growth in this country has come from women. Today, 30 to 40 percent of women earn as much or more than their husbands. The younger a woman is, the likelier she is to outearn men her age. And research predicts that by the year 2030 the average woman will outearn the average man.
In 1981, 16 percent of women outearned their spouses. In 2000, it was 22 percent. Today, it's 30 to 40 percent.
And it's a problem. We like our traditional roles. Men and women are happier in marriages in which the husband earns more money. Men and women are happier in marriages in which the woman does more of the housework.
What happens in these situations? Unfortunately, too much of the time when women start outearning their spouses, they begin to compensate. They try to hide it by putting complete financial control in the husband's hands or earmarking the woman's income to pay the bills so that there's no money left to spend as she sees fit. Other times, the woman feels so guilty about outearning her partner that she takes on more and more of the housework. Rarely will either spouse admit that the woman is the breadwinner to their friends or family. And more of these families split up than average. Is there a solution?
Talk and listen to each other
Paychecks and housework aside, a new study from the University of Virginia shows that the factor that contributes most to a happy relationship is whether you and your spouse are engaged emotionally.
Be his biggest cheerleader
Make the effort to understand why your husband gets such a kick out of his career (even if he doesn't get as big a paycheck). Tell him you admire what he's doing. And if he's home with the kids, tell him how you believe it's helping the family as a unit. You have to believe deep down that what your partner is bringing to the relationship is just as valuable as what you are bringing. Otherwise it's destined to fail.
Open yours, mine and ours accounts
This allows you to pay for dinner out of the ours account without discussing whose money it is each time. You can do the same with family vacations, cars, groceries, things for the kids, etc. The separate accounts allow you to maintain a little financial independence — a chance not to ask permission about the things YOU want to buy.
